John Wesley Notes:
Come, see the place where the Lord lay-Probably in speaking
he rose up, and going before the women into the sepulcher, said, Come,
see the place. This clearly reconciles what St. John relates, John 20:12,
this being one of the two angels there mentioned.

Robertson's Word Pictures:
Risen from the dead (êgerthê apo tôn nekrôn). Jesus the Risen.
This is
the heart of the testimony of the angel to the women. It is what Paul
wishes Timothy never to forget (2Ti 2:8), "Jesus Christ risen from the
dead" (Iêsoun Christon egêgermenon ek nekrôn). They were afraid and
dazzled by the glory of the scene, but the angel said, "Come, see the
place where the Lord lay" (deute idete ton topon hopou ekeito ho Kurios).
Some MSS. do not have ho Kurios, but he is the subject of ekeito. His
body was not there. It will not do to say that Jesus arose in spirit and
appeared alive though his body remained in the tomb. The empty tomb is
the first great fact confronting the women and later the men. Various
theories were offered then as now. But none of them satisfy the evidence
and explain the survival of faith and hope in the disciples that do not
rest upon the fact of the Risen Christ whose body was no longer in the
tomb.

Jamieson-Fausset-Brown:
see the place where the Lord lay--Charming invitation! "Come, see the
spot where the Lord of glory lay: now it is an empty grave: He lies not
here, but He lay there. Come, feast your eyes on it!"
-
Adam Clarke's Commentary:
The tomb in which our Lord was laid was no doubt like the rest of
the Jewish burying places, a receptacle for the several dead of a whole
family, divided into separate niches, where each had his place. Come and
see the place-was tantamount to, Come and see the niche in which he was
laid-it is now empty; nor was there any other body in the place, for the
tomb was a new one, in which no man had ever been laid, Joh 19:41; so
there could be no deception in the case.
-
Albert Barnes' Commentary:
He is risen, as he said. He had often predicted that he would rise, but
the disciples did not understand it, and consequently did not expect it,
Mt 16:21; 20:19.
The place where the Lord lay. The place where a body was deposited in a
sepulchre was commonly a niche cut in the wall of the sepulchre. The
sepulchre was usually large; that of David was more than a hundred feet
in length, cut out of solid rock under ground, and separated into
various apartments. All round the sides of those apartments were niches
for the dead; or they were ranged around the sides, in places cut in the
solid rock just large enough to contain the body. In such a place our
Lord lay.
{h} "he said" Mt 27:63

Family Bible Notes:
The Lord; of angels as well as men. The evidence is conclusive, that
while Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
on the
third day he rose again for our justification according to the
Scriptures. Ro 4:25.

People's New Testament Commentary:
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. The women had not
seen him rise and had to be informed.
They therefore came to the
sepulcher after the resurrection. Christ had risen "as he said." For the
prophecies of a resurrection see Mt 16:21; Lu 17:23; also read Lu 24:6.
See the place where the Lord lay. The angel does not say "your," but the
Lord--the Lord of the angels as well as men.

Spurgeon's Commentary on Matthew:
Jesus always keeps his word: "He is risen, as he said." He said he would
rise from the dead, and he did; he says that his people also shall rise,
and they shall. "Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go
quickly," the angel would not let the women stay long looking into the
sepulcher, for there was work for them to do. In this world, we cannot
afford to spend all our time in contemplation, however heavenly it may
be. Notice the angel's words: first "See," and then "Go." Make sure
about the fact for yourselves, and then let others know of it. What you
know, tell; and do it "quickly." Swift be your feet; such good
news as you have to carry should not be long on the road. "The King's
business required haste."
"Tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he
goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him." Matthew wrote
THE GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM, yet in his writings there is much about that
despised region called "Galilee of the Gentiles", that border-land which
touches us as well as the chosen seed of Abraham. There, in Galilee, is
the place where Jesus will hold the first general assembly of his church
after his resurrection.
