Press Release

In observance of the fifieth anniversary of the flight of the Bell X-1 
event, the commemorative stamp of the super sonic airplace has been 
issued with the first day coverage at Edwards Air Force Base in 
California. Mentone's Lawrence D. Bell Aircraft Museum, Inc. and the 
Mentone Post Office is commemorating this event by having a second-day 
coverage in the builder's home town of Mentone on October 15, 1997. The Museum will be sponsoring a FIRST TIME colored cachet. The coverage for the second-day will begin on October 15, 1997 and continue through 
October 18, 1997 at the Mentone Post Office, 102 W. Main Street, and will be climaxed with a reception and presentation of the stamp at 2:00pm at Teel's Restaurant Banquet Room in Mentone, October 18th. There will also be a colored first-day coverage cachet available. Unserviced Blanks will 
sell for $2.00. Serviced Blanks will sell for $2.50. combo (one of each) 
FDC serviced 2nd day serviced will sell for $3.00. Addressed stamped
